Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are an important part of Estherville's daily operation.  There are so many on-site, as well as behind the scenes, ways to help.
             * All volunteers must be 18 years or older*

Fundraising

Fundraising is an ongoing project throughout the year.  The coordinator is always looking for help seeking donations from local businesses.  Flyers for upcoming events need to be distributed to stores and offices.

Adoption Events

*Adoption events are held around the community.  Volunteers are needed to handle the dogs and cats and also to man the sale table of various items like shelter tee shirts, pet items, baskets, and even mugs.

Dog Walkers

Dog walkers are so valuable to the shelter.  We have all sorts of dogs that need to be exercised regularly.  Estherville is on a country road that provides an ideal place to walk or jog with a pooch.  During warm weather there is a welcome brook for the dogs to get a drink or take a dip.  Two yards are at the shelter to play ball or frisbee with the dogs.  This is a good place to give a dog a brushing or a good old-fashioned belly rub.  You must be at least 18 years old and sign a waiver release form, in order to be a dog walker.

Volunteers

Volunteers are needed to socialize with the cats.  Many need regular brushing and this contact helps the cats relax.  Cats also like to be played with or simply held in your lap.   Please complete a waiver release form.

ETC...

Building maintenance is ongoing at the shelter.  If you are skilled with a hammer and saw, there are always repairs needed to be done.

Seasonal chores are also needed all year long.  Fall and spring cleanup of the yards is on the "to do" list.  Scout troops often complete community service work with these types of tasks.  During the winter, snow shoveling can be a monumental task and extra hands are appreciated following storms.  Each year another building needs power washing and maintenance painting.  Service groups might do well completing such projects.  Bottles and cans need to be sorted for recycling.   This would be another great scout endeavor!
